Football is a skill game. 8 months (November to August) is long time to go without practicing a skill.

Preseason workouts are useful to all players youth to College for many reasons.
In addition to skill development, there are safety issues like Heat Acclimation and truly understanding the importance of Hydration aka "pre-hab".
Lastly and importantly, preseason workouts give players a good chance of having a great season.
